LEGO Monster Fighters Vampyre Hearse Review (LEGO)

What It Is

LEGO Monster Fighters Vampyre Hearse is a 314-piece building set that is part of LEGO's new Monster Fighters line. It includes a lot of imaginative sets based on classic monsters. And in this set, kids build and play out a scene for a vampire. The story behind the set is that the vampire and his zombie driver servant have the moonstone and are making a getaway in the hearse. Dr. Rodney Rathbone is chasing after them on his motorcycle to try and steal the moonstone. But the vampire launches a surprise coffin attack.

The hearse features a coffin with a catapult function so kids can launch the vampire from the hearse. The graphics on top of the hearse glow in the dark. The set comes with three minifigures: zombie driver, vampire, and Dr. Rodney Rathbone. Accessories include the moonstone and four weapons.

Is It Fun?

The Vampyre Hearse has a dramatic look and a lot of creepy detail. The launching mechanism on the hearse adds some action to the set, but it took us a while to figure out how to launch the vampire. Also, the model didn't stay together well as we played with it. That said, we really like the Monster Fighters line, and we think it's going to be a real hit with kids who love monsters and creating monster stories.

Who It’s For

The Vampyre Hearse building set is for ages 8–14.
