Felicity & Cordelia: A Tale of Two Bunnies Review (Farrar Straus Giroux)

What It Is

This is a very sweet story about two friends who couldn’t be more opposite. Felicity is adventurous and an optimist. Cordelia is a homebody and a worrier. When Felicity wants to go on a trip in her hot air balloon, Cordelia thinks of many reasons why they both shouldn’t go: They’ll get cold, the balloon may break, and so on. Felicity sets off on her own and enjoys the sights from above the ground. But just as Cordelia predicted, the balloon breaks. Felicity takes her misfortune in stride and comes up with a clever way to get back home. The next day, Cordelia receives a big package in the mail. Guess who’s inside?

Is It Fun?

This story is more “sweet” than “fun,” and kids can learn something from each of these very different personalities. Felicity was brave to try something new on her own and didn’t let her misfortune get her down. And, while Cordelia was nervous about the balloon trip, she didn’t stand in her friend’s way and supported Felicity’s decision. Each bunny was very comfortable in her own skin ... or fur. And, that’s an important lesson that kids should learn at an early age, and parents should take to heart.

Who It’s For

Felicity & Cordelia is a great selection for kids aged 4 to 6.
